{"id":3920,"date":"2012-08-07T11:24:50","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T14:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=3920"},"modified":"2012-08-07T11:24:50","modified_gmt":"2012-08-07T14:24:50","slug":"476-virgilio-m-tedin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recoletacemetery.com\/?p=3920","title":{"rendered":"476. virgilio m. ted\u00edn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Virgilio Ted\u00edn\" src=\"https:\/\/recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200711G17.jpg\" alt=\"Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Virgilio Ted\u00edn\" width=\"291\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Born in Salta in 1850, <strong>Virgilio Mariano Ted\u00edn Tejada<\/strong> joined the local elite by marrying Flor de Mar\u00eda Uriburu Arenales&#8212;sister of future President Jos\u00e9 Evaristo de Uriburu&#8230; who in turn was uncle to Argentina&#8217;s first military dictator, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=3204\">Jos\u00e9 F\u00e9lix Uriburu<\/a>. It&#8217;s all in the family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seemingly at odds with future cousins, Ted\u00edn earned respect as a fair national judge during the complicated 1890&#8217;s. After the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=224\">failed revolution<\/a>, he did his best to ensure fair treatment of Leandro N. Alem &amp; other activists. Ted\u00edn died at the age of 42, &amp; this tomb was paid for by public donations&#8230; remarkable for a federal judge:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Virgilio Ted\u00edn\" src=\"https:\/\/recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200711G19.jpg\" alt=\"Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Virgilio Ted\u00edn\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sculpted in 1899 by Miguel Sansebastiano&#8212;also the author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=625\">Toribio de Ayerza<\/a>&#8216;s tomb&#8212;a seated female figure representing Justice (find the fallen scales) crowns an angel. Today, the wrought-iron crown (perhaps of laurel?) is missing along with her thumb, but a fuzzy version can be seen in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=3201\">1900 photo<\/a> by Harry Grant Olds. The angel&#8217;s book contains three unreadable words, worn over time&#8230; looks like &#8220;<em>??? y senteacea<\/em>&#8221; but that&#8217;s merely a guess.
