Founders of the family line receive praise with engraved tombstones on the fa\u00e7ade&#8230; Jayme Llavallol y del Ri\u00fa was originally from Barcelona &amp; his wife, Gertrudis Merlo, was 100% <em>porte\u00f1a<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200801C26.jpg\" alt=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200801C27.jpg\" alt=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Felipe Llavallol, son of Jayme &amp; Gertrudis, was the most famous family member, occupying several high-ranking business &amp; government positions in Buenos Aires. As Vice-Governor of the short-lived State of Buenos Aires (named so after seceding from the <em>Confederaci\u00f3n Argentina<\/em>), Llavallol assumed the top spot after the Battle of Cepeda in 1859. Urquiza&#8217;s forces won the fight, Buenos Aires was re-incorporated into the nation, Governor Valent\u00edn Alsina resigned, &amp; Llavallol took over for the next several months. No doubt he is buried here as well, but the interior only shows a lot of structural damage &amp; neglect&#8230; no sign of Felipe:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200801C29.jpg\" alt=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The most decorative part of the vault can be found on the top with a chubby cherub bearing a wreath. Other symbols present are an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=70\">ouroboros<\/a>, an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=103\">hourglass with wings<\/a>, &amp; an exceptional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/?p=53\">skull &amp; crossbones<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.recoletacemetery.com\/images\/200801C32.jpg\" alt=\"Llavallol, Recoleta Cemetery\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Occupying an unusually large chunk of real estate, the Llavallol family vault appears to have seen better days.
